For almost 40 years, Riverside Language Program has been the sole provider of free, intensive, English language, civics and IT classes to New York City’s documented, newly-arrived adult immigrants, asylees and refugees.
Our unique program fast-tracks immigrants to the dignity of self-sufficiency, setting them on the road to responsible citizenship and stable family life. Avoiding the trap of immigrant ‘brain waste’, Riverside graduates are empowered to hit the ground running in their new lives as working, tax-paying New Yorkers, or students in post-secondary education.
"At Riverside we build a sense of community, so that the students feel safe and comfortable to learn."
- Lia Pesce, Workshop Coordinator
In six weeks, students make impressive educational gains that it would take one year to achieve in a part-time English class. Our program of counseling and practical care supports students and their families through the turbulent resettlement period, giving our newest New Yorkers the tools to succeed in their lives here.
Your support will impact not only one immigrant or one family – it will impact our whole community, where immigrants are the backbone of New York City.
"Riverside is the best program in New York for immigrant people... They didn't give me only an education... they prepared me for the life here."
– Kassim, 2015 Graduate
"The board and staff of Columbia Community Service (CCS)* have partnered with the Riverside Language Program for close to ten years. The Riverside Language Program has a stellar reputation in the immigrant community and a proven track record."
– Joan Griffith Lee, Director of Columbia Community Service
*Columbia Community Service is the giving campaign for staff, faculty, and retirees of Columbia, Barnard, and Teachers College
