TESOL Certification Program

TESOL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Led by master teacher Tom Miller, New York Times ESOL Teacher of the Year Finalist

Incorporating three weeks of experiential language learning theory

July 25-August 12, 2011= 75 hours*

AND

Three weeks of experiential TESOL internship (to be negotiated) during the period August 15-June 29, 2012 = 75 hours*

*Ask your local Board of Education about CEUs

Weeks One and Two of the TESOL Certificate program will be language learning experiences using learning-centered approaches.  Week One will demonstrate a Counseling-Learning approach to Italian; Week Two will demonstrate a Silent Way approach to Greek.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore themselves as learners; will draw principles of effective language learning from these experiences; and will then apply these principles to ESOL teaching.  Week Three will focus on creating a structured syllabus and materials for ESOL classes from the students, just as their Italian and Greek lessons came from the teacher's awareness of them: what they did and didn't know and could or couldn't pronounce correctly and consistently.

For the purpose of the TESOL Certificate, all participants must also complete a three-week internship under the mentorship of one of RLP's master teachers.  People not needing the Certificate can forego the internship and receive a reduced price of $1000 for the first three language learning weeks.  Participants must register for the 75 hours July 25-August 12 as a whole.

Testimonial: “Despite a great graduate language teaching education, I wasn’t prepared to face a class of students.  Thankfully, the internship at RLP gave me exactly what I needed to gain confidence and experience in the classroom.”  Lia Pesce
